Calling Adults & Former Scouts to Make a Difference

Dan Beard Council is in search of positive role models, 21 years or older, to volunteer during an outdoor youth program, Challenge Camp, from July 26-30, 2021 (Ages 8-14).

Challenge Camp is a free summer camp aimed at helping youth, ages 8-14, to grow and learn while experiencing outdoor action and adventure. Conducted each summer, this valuable program has served minority outreach communities in our region since 1995. Our campers are great young people who enjoy the excitement of the outdoors delivered by Scouting and who might not otherwise be able to afford the experience.

Mentors have the option of volunteering for any or all of the days of camp. Click here to learn more about how this program makes a positive impact in our community.

Responsibilities of a Mentor:

•      Participate in daily mentor briefing meetings at 8:30 a.m.

•      Take attendance of patrol members daily and guide patrol to and from all daily activities.

•      Encourage patrol to show Scout spirit by creating a patrol flag, patrol chant, and do their best in all activities.

•      Be a positive role model to all campers!  And most important, HAVE FUN!

Please consider donating a bit of your time this summer to this important program and help us deliver the promise of Scouting to these children. Click here to register!

If you have any questions, please contact Michelle Byrne at michelle.byrne@scouting.org.
